water capital grant scheme

The Water Capital Grant Scheme is now open to farmers in the water quality priority areas of the Chelmer and Blackwater Catchment through Countryside Stewardship.   These areas are primarily on land immediately surrounding Hanningfield Reservoir.

Grants at a 50% grant rate, are available to farmers in these priority areas to install a range of capital items to reduce diffuse water pollution from agriculture including:

§  Watercourse fencing

§  Pesticide handling areas (inc. biobeds, biofilters, bunded concrete pads and roofing)

§  Roofs over manure heaps

§  Rainwater harvesting

§  Sediment ponds and traps

§  Livestock and machinery tracks

For more information, please contact Teresa or visit:

This sprayer filling area was constructed by a farmer in the Upper Chelmer Catchment in Essex.  They received a grant towards the work, which has enabled a roofed, bunded sprayer filling area to be constructed, linked to a biofilter.  This provides a good environment for sprayer filling for the farmer, as well as containing and treating any pesticide losses from filling and washing down and preventing them entering local watercourses.
